01:16 am - Then she got an idea. An awful idea. Wilwarin got a wonderful, *awful* idea!
The Awesome Rangers' 12 Days of... Something

It's basically the 12 days of Christmas, but inserting Hanukkah and Kwanzaa for Tony and Lathan. To animate it, I'd just need two frames for each verse, which makes 24 frames today (which is nothing.)

Here's where it gets a bit tricky: I'd need to convince the cast to sing (except for Emo, he can speak his lyrics). Secondly, I can't draw faces. Granted I could draw the ranger helmets, but it just won't have the same feel to it. Lastly, I'd need to borrow Squall or Bard to compose the appropriate background music, because it's impossible to find a midi that would fit...

I'd need a lot of help with this, so it might not happen this year. Maybe next year after NebrasKon, we can post it to the YouTube account as a mini-Holiday special...

The whole thing is scripted, I just want Lathan to look over it and see if anything should be changed to make it even more stereotypical... I think I did pretty good though. We'll see...

02:46 am - EPIC!
The last episode of There Will Be Brawl will be uploaded on Friday, Dec 18th, noon EST. If you haven't watched it yet, do it! It's an amazing web-series by very talented people.

I might have to post something about it after I watch it. I won't be able to contain myself otherwise.

11:11 pm - Argh!
I want a dressform SO badly. I've wanted one for years, but the issue is space. I can make one for cheap, but I just don't have the room for it in my house. :(

So I've either got to get my own place (which won't happen for a while), or find someone to invent a collapsible one...

EDIT: Nevermind... it has been invented...

11:45 pm - Work WTF
I don't know if this is considered to be a[info]customers_suck, but I know it's worth posting about...

Kids, please do not eat the ice on the skating rink. I know it looks like snow and looks tempting, but believe me, it's not fit for human consumption. There's more dirt and dead bugs in (and on) that ice than I wish to know about. Not to mention we've already had two accidents in two days that involved blood on the skating rink. Also, people walk in their skates to the bathroom and then go right back outside to go skating.

You really don't know where that ice has been.

Parents, please stop your children from eating said ice. It's not cute. It grosses me out more than the unholy smell in the restrooms.

Sincerely,
That girl behind the register

11:54 pm - I want to do what for when? Already?
So, I have this really bizarre urge to cosplay Rita Repulsa/Bandora for next year's NebrasKon. I think doing the steampunk outfit for free made me think that I might be able to pull it off...

After I got home from work, I started browsing for images and videos for reference photos. The costume itself doesn't look that hard; just time-consuming.

The wig and headpiece might end up being the hardest part, since I don't have all that much experience with them... everything else looks completely do-able, even the collar of doom...

We shall see. ^^ First I gotta finish the armor for Tsuruhime, then I'll think more about Bandora.

11:38 pm - Anime NebrasKon 2009 -- Sunday
Sunday morning, I had to wake up at 8 because of my sentai panel. Almost was late because of the last-minute running around I had to do ahead of time.

I showed up... no one there. I started setting up and a few people walked in. Cue relief. I managed to get the Power Point set up in record time, only to find out that YouTube was down for maintenance. ): To make matters worse, as soon as my presentation was done, the battery died and I didn't have the adapter to the laptop. D: Ended up just having a discussion about it, and it turns out everyone in the room had seen at least some sentai, so it wasn't too bad.

Immediately afterward was the Create Your Own Awesome Ranger contest, which went really well. I wasn't able to compete myself due to being busy gathering supplies and Lathan wasn't around to act as a judge (so I stood in for him). It was really cool, and I loved the creativity of everyone there. Although Ed, Jenni, and Patrick kinda had the advantage. ;)

The rest of the day was eaten up with Anime Idol stuff. Never again. I made it to the final round, which I didn't expect, and ended up taking second place. Anime Idol is fun, but my voice was really bad on Sunday and my second song really sucked. :P Not to mention I have better things to do on a Sunday at a convention than sitting in a green room.

But right before the contest, my former roommate Patty called me. She had moved to Kansas, and a group of high school students wanted to start their own anime convention. She wanted to know who to talk to so she could let them know just how much work starting a con is. I ended up just giving her Becky and Dylan's e-mail.

And my Awesome Rangers/Lucky Star AMV won the Spirit Award, which was hilarious. Although, truth be told, there wasn't much competition...

Closing ceremonies rocked, but I was sad to see it end. Helped the rest of the staff pack stuff up, which took until 8:30. Lathan, Tony, Bard and Jeff went to Applebee's for a "guys night out" before Bard left for Arkansas. The rest of the staff, meanwhile, went to Denny's for dinner. I was broke and not all that hungry, so I hung out in the staff suite, watching the Travel Channel and eating a sandwich.

Hated saying goodbye to Bard, but at least I have his CD. So it's like he's still here in NE in some bizarre way. ^^

Made it home around 11-ish, I think. Just threw my stuff on the couch and went to bed. I was tired. :)

That pretty much sums up NebrasKon on my end. It's a shame I didn't get to see more of the guests, but that's what happens when you spend the whole con running from panel to panel. Next year, I'm not going to do as much. Probably not Anime Idol or Late-Nite D&D again; not worth it.

11:23 pm - Anime NebrasKon 2009 -- Saturday
Woke up at 9 because I didn't see the staff schedule the night before, and Lathan had his Dr. Anime panel at 10.

I finally made it to con-ops around 10:15-10:30, where I found out I wasn't needed until 2. Which was alright because I still had to put together Tsuruhime's headband. The tacky glue took forever to dry, and it ended up coming apart an hour later. :P

But I finished the final touches and walked around for a bit and got a little to eat. Saw the last five minutes or so of Anime Funeral, which was packed.

Due to some kind of last minute scheduling snafu, I had to be at the Anime Idol pre-judging/audition at the same time as the Awesome Rangers 2: Lightning Edition showing. AR2 ended up starting about 15 minutes late due to technical difficulties. After that was an epic fail because the AR feedback panel, AR3 showing, and the hall cosplay contest were going on at the same time... *facepalm*

Fortunately, I just had to eval the hall contest and not judge, so I made it back for the credits. There was no AR panel because everyone had left. :( I did talk about Power Rangers and Sentai to a random girl in the audience for a while.

After that was the cosplay greenroom, which was delayed because Buranden had to do sound checks before we could start. But we still managed to get everyone in on time and start the contest 5 minutes early.

Cosplay judging gets harder every year. So much good talent, and we can only narrow it down so much. Last year we forgot to give out the best prop award. This year we didn't give out the Spirit Award because Ben Wei didn't look hard enough for more prizes... :(

The swimsuit contest was interesting. It went better than I had expected, although we still ended up having a major miscommunication problem.

Staff Misadventures was fun, mostly because Becky showed videos of stuff I couldn't make it to. I told a bunch of stories from Awesome Rangers filming.

War Stories was epic as always. Other than opening and closing ceremonies it was the only time I really got to see the guests. And I was there because I was evaluating it... The best part was definitely Matt Greenfield *breaking* Yuri Lowenthal with the story about the Jamaican security guard and a goat. ^^ That panel always ends way too soon. One hour flies fast.

After that was more Late-Nite D&D stuff, which was pretty cool. It's a shame that only one group was playing, because it seemed like a really cool campaign.

I managed to finally crawl into bed around 4:30 in the morning.

05:30 pm - Anime NebrasKon 2009 -- Friday
Since I was riding with Lathan and Tony, naturally we were running behind. Fortunately, I had *almost* everything packed (sans decent camera). Lathan picked me up around 2:30. We threw everything in his car, and we were on our way. When we got to 72nd St, Jaci called me in a panic mode because we hadn't showed up yet and I was supposed to be evaluating a panel (news to me - I apparently didn't get the e-mail with the staff schedule).

I brought the essentials for my cosplay where I changed into it in near-record time. I was ready to go long before Opening Ceremonies. (Which was an absolute blast despite the technical difficulties.)

After that was the Forum Meet-up, which was sparse but decent. Never got to the epic rock-paper-scissors tourney due to no prizes, and we actually kept talking about the forums. o_O

Finally got to see what the Create-Your-Own Ninja contest was like, because I was evaluating it. I loved the creativity of everyone.

Anime Improv... wow... I think "Pantyshot Girl" is my new nickname for a while... videos are on YouTube, so yay. Next year, we definitely need a larger room with a stage.

Tony's Roast was hilarious. I think I was the only one who really tore into him, everyone else just told stories. But Squall giving tony a lapdance in the Gay Corral outfit is an image that will last forever. ^^

Had to watch the video room for a bit where I got to see a couple episodes of "Beck"... it's an OK series, but I love the opening song. ^^

Late-Nite D&D... yeah, might not be doing it again. I'm pretty sure I loaned out dice that I never got back, but I might need to do a recount... And I was *tired*.

I think I finally crashed around 3 or so...

12:32 am - Zombie make-up question
OK, so I've been recruited to help Jenni and Ed with their film project, "The Bill Hammett Files". One of the characters is undead; she was killed two weeks prior to the events in the film with a blunt object striking her across her face. It's supposed to be gross-looking, possibly rotted.

Here's my problem: I'm squeamish and really OCD. I can't look up a lot of gory photos without me dwelling on them... a lot. (I can look at fake blood and gore just fine, but when it's real... totally different.) So, what would a wound like that look like? I looked up photos of a decomposing pig, but it doesn't have the effect I'm looking for.

If nothing else, I'll just buy a bottle of liquid latex and experiment with it.

12:12 am - Six degrees of seperation - seiyuu style
So, I was browsing Wikipedia for sentai stuff and wanted to see if the voices of the Engines from Go-Onger were in anything else. Boy, was I in for a surprise. Not only are they still acting, they are very well-known seiyuu. And it wasn't just Go-Onger that had popular seiyuu in the cast...

* Daisuke Namikawa aka Speedor (Go-Onger): Rock (Black Lagoon), Ulquiorra (Bleach), North and South Italy (Hetalia), N-Ma (Magiranger), Fay D. Flourite (Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle)
* Sōichirō Hoshi aka Birca (Go-Onger): Goku (Saiyuki), Kazuma (s-CRY-ed), Kei Kusanagi (Onegai Teacher)
* Akiko Nakagawa aka Bomper (Go-Onger): Sota Higurashi (InuYasha); married to composer Kaoru Wada
* Yasuhiro Takato aka Meemy (Magiranger): Russia (Hetalia), Gluttony (FMA), Artemis (Sailor Moon)
* Misa Watanabe aka Vancuria (Magiranger): Vivi (One Piece), Rina (Higurashi), Kanzeon (Saiyuki)
* Kōki Miyata aka Kera (Abaranger): Winner Sinclair (Karin)
* Emiko Shinohara aka Ptera (Abaranger): Yayoi Matsunaga (NightWalker), Angel (The Big O), Carrera Maaka (Karin), Sailor Jupiter (Sailor Moon)

01:34 am - More cosplay stuff done
Hung out at Lathan's today for a few hours. I was able to get Tsuruhime's hakama cut out, as well as the front pieces for the top. I was missing the right sleeves and the back piece for the top, so I'll have to get those later. I was also able to cut out the obi, which turned out to be scrap pieces from the hakama. Lathan helped draft the pattern for the gauntlets, so I might be able to have those for NebrasKon, but we'll see.

Hopefully by next week, I'll get the entire thing cut out and sewn.

I really like the stylistic choices, there are a few things I don't necessarily agree with, but it's a good starting point.

If I can do my own film project (or co-directing one), this might be worth looking into for simplicity's sake.

12:28 am - I might have to steal this idea:
How to Make a Film in 5 Days
http://www.screenrush.co.uk/article/fichearticle_gen_carticle=18485159%20.html

The tips are pretty solid. The guidelines are basically what Tony and Lathan did for Awesome Rangers 1.

I don't know if any film project I do can be done in 5 days, but I certainly hope it won't last longer than two years...
